Hello - My name is Carrie Evanchik! I am so excited to begin my second year at Holten Richmond Middle School here in Danvers. It was an incredibly successful year in 2014-2015. Some of the highlights included:
Prior to joining the HRMS Music Department, I directed the choruses and taught general music for eight years at Belmonte Middle School in Saugus; I also taught General Music in Everett for two years. My goal is for every student to leave my class with a love of making music, and to gain the tools to do so independently. I accomplish this by incorporating a wide variety of music styles and genres, while focusing on music literacy and individual musicianship within the choral rehearsal and music classroom. I continually work to expand my own musicianship. I have taught solfege workshops for music teachers in Maine, managed the Northeast District Senior Chorus in 2014, and directed the 2014 Maine District 1 Sixth Grade Honors Chorus. I still take voice lessons, both for fun and to keep learning! I won first place in the 2013 Boston NATS Song and Aria Festival, as well as in the Musical
Theatre festival. I also sing with Vox Futura, New
England's premier recording choir, and can be heard on soundtracks for the
video games God Eater 2 and Ace Combat 3DS, as well as a variety of recordings and commercials. I grew up in upstate New York, in the small city of Oswego, right on Lake Ontario. In 2004 I completed my undergraduate work at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where I studied Horn and Music Education. I obtained a Master of Music degree from Boston University in 2009, where I also completed my Level I and Level II Certification in Orff-Schulwerk. Outside of music making, I have lots of interests! I love to read, especially sci-fi and fantasy; I also love to cook, explore museums, and travel the Danvers Rail Trail on my little vanilla-colored bike - you might see me riding toward Orange Leaf some evening! I am so excited to work with the HRMS students, and am ready to hit the ground running. As The Doctor would say... "Allons-y!" | I sang for this commercial with "Vox Futura", a
recording choir based in Boston. It was a total blast - I loved this
character when I was younger! Here is another 3DS game I sang background vocals for: Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy. We recorded music for the entire game (as opposed to just the commercial) over the course of three days - intense, but incredibly fun! (The choir is heard best from 0:23 to 1:05 in this brief clip.) And here I am, singing at the finals for the 2013 NATS Musical Theatre Competition (Adult Amateur Division). The song is "Vanilla Ice Cream", from the musical She Loves Me. I began studying voice formally only three years ago - but singing was always my first love! |
